Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca, EuroCity, EuroNight, InterCityNotte, CityNightLine, and Thello trains always require reservations. Reservations are required on InterCity trains 1 May - 30 September and public holidays, and are optional at other times.

Passholder fares may only be used in combination with a valid Eurail pass or Interrail pass. Note: an ItaliaPass does not entitle customers to use of passholder fares.

To receive discounts based on age while in Italy, the following qualifications must be met:

Senior:	Train operators in Italy do not offer a discount for Seniors.
Youth:	Train operators in Italy do not offer a discount for Youths.
Child:	To qualify for Child fares, passengers must be between 4 and 11 years of age inclusive.

To receive discounts based on number of people travelling together, please be aware that only groups of 10 adult people (2 children = 1 adult) will be entitled to a variable discount depending on train type, journey and date of travel.

Please be aware that the system will automatically calculate any child or group discount you might be entitled to; no Senior or Youth discounts can be bought for single tickets purchased outside of Italy. Senior, Youth and Child discounts are bookable for railpasses covering Italy. Please choose the relevant option at the time of booking.

Many trains in Italy and beyond offer a discounted fare between 30% & 50% off the Adult fare for Children. A child is consider between the ages of 4 and 11 years. That offer is now extended to children ages 4 to 14 years when traveling on high-speed Frecciarossa, Frecciabianca & Frecciargento (medium and long distance trains), as well as Thello trains. Your child will be assigned his/her own seat and children must be accompanied by an Adult when traveling on this offer.

Regional trains will still offer discounted fares for children ages 4 to 11 years.

Infants & Children 3 & under travel for free and will share a seat with the adult companion.
